Overview

Department of Pharmacology was established in 1988 with all facilities as per MCI requirement under the able guidance of Dr. S. Nanjappa, a Senior Professor of Pharmacology with a young and dynamic HOD Dr. Babu S Nema. The year 1995 saw a highly motivated, innovative and interested professor Dr. T.S.Hariharan taking over as HOD who dedicated himself in improving museum, fully revised practical record, planning the department of Pharmacology in the new administrative block.

Dr. Sarala N (Asst. Professor) and Dr. T N. Kumar (Professor) strengthened the implementation of undergraduate syllabus. In January 2003, the department saw an important development in the starting of MD Pharmacology course with the approval of MCI for 2 seats per year latter 3 seats per year was approved. A new Clinical Pharmacy Unit was inaugurated on 12-10-2011 by the Vice Chancellor of SDUAHER Dr. S.Chandrashekar Shetty in RLJ Hospital and Research Center and is functioning presently to provide up to date information on drugs, adverse drug reaction and drug interactions.

Department was recognized as Peripheral Pharmacovigilance Centre from 2005 and from July 2015 it is functioning as Adverse Drug Reaction Monitoring Centre, Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission, National Coordinating Centre, Ghaziabad. Computer Assisted Learning Laboratory was established in 2019. Department was conferred the Best Department Award for the year 2014-15. Central Animal House facility was shifted to new building in December 2021. Four faculties have also undergone training in Medical Education Technology and completed Basic Course in Biomedical Research.

  • To encourage faculty to obtain external funding and increase the number of publications in high impact factor journal
  • To encourage undergraduate students to carry out research projects
