Sri Devaraj Urs Medical College (SDUMC) is a renowned institution situated in Tamaka, Kolar, Karnataka, India.  It is a constituent college of Sri Devaraj Urs Academy of Higher Education and Research, under the aegis of Sri Devaraj Urs Educational Trust for Backward Classes, Kolar. Established in 1986, the college is named after the former Chief Minister of Karnataka, Sri Devaraj Urs, who was a great social, political and economic reformer of the state. The college, since its inception, has emerged as a prominent center for medical education and healthcare.

Shri R L Jalappa

THE FOUNDER

Sri R.L.Jalappa was an outspoken politician, educationist and leader of co-operative movement. His visionary leadership, dedication, discipline, enthusiasm and efficient administrative skills combined with his deep, burning desire to help the people of Kolar, especially those belonging to the backward classes, made him establish the Sri Devaraj Urs Educational Trust (SDUET) in the year 1986 at Kolar. He served as the Founder President and Chairman of SDUET, for over 25 years. Under the aegis of the trust, he started Sri Devaraj Urs Medical College in the year 1986. His tireless and relentless efforts propelled the college to achieve a Deemed to be University status in the year 2007.

The First President of the University Sri.R.L.Jalappa, who has been the Founder & present Chairman of Sri DevarajUrs Educational Trust (SDUET), for the past 25 years is an outspoken politician, educationist and leader of co-operative movement. Today under his leadership Sri DevarajUrs Educational Trust has 8 Institutions in which more than 500 dedicated, motivated faculties are serving and over 4500 students have enrolled for various courses from kindergarten to post doctoral courses, in traditional, technical and medical educational Institutions.

Genesis
1984
Dedicated and like-minded visionaries headed by Shri.R.L.Jalappa, Champion of co-operative movement established Sri Devaraj Urs Educational Trust, for Backward Classes, to focus on Medical Education and Social Service.
1986
The trust started Sri Devaraj Urs Medical College, Tamaka, Kolar. Through this college the trust sought to make a significant contribution to Medical Education, Research and Health Care to Rural population. The College is situated at Tamaka (abutting National Highway No.4 - between Bangalore and Chennai), 5 K.M. from KOLAR, Karnataka. Kolar is well connected by road, rail and air due its proximity to Bangalore, which is 75 K.M. away. The nearest Railway Junction, Bangarpet is 15 K.M. away from Kolar.
2006
The trust in its stride for attainment of quality service to its stake holders has obtained Accreditation by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC, INDIA) and certification by ISO 9001-2000 for its Medical College. Sri Devaraj Urs Medical College is one of the few Medical Colleges in India to have achieved this remarkable feat.
