INTRODUCTION

Department of Pathology has established various diagnostic branches namely Histopathology, Hematology, Clinical pathology, Cytology and Immunohistochemistry over a period of twenty five years along with nurturing to the undergraduate and post graduate education. Post graduate course in MD Pathology was started in 2003 with two admissions per year and increased to four per year from 2010. So for, eight batches of students have completed their course with 100% pass percentage. Phd courses were started from 2011. Postgraduate study specimens, constructed autopsy specimen assembly is always ready for PG examinations. The department has well stocked museum arranged systematically with corresponding legends. Our department has procured equipment’s for diagnostic services like Histokinet (automatic), Binocular research microscopes, Trinocular microscopes with CCTV attachment, Haematology autoanalysers etc., IHC (Immunohistochemistry) laboratory is set up and we are using 19+5 of antibodies on Histopathology section for diagnostic and research purpose. Our Department in co-ordination with Department of Biochemistry and Microbiology is actively involved in providing patient care at central laboratory established at R L Jalappa Hospital.

To develop and present state of art education and training programme of UG and PG students

To develop several applied research programmes to enhance diagnostic ability

To develop into oncopathology centre with molecular pathology section

To conduct outreach screening programmes to expand diagnostic service as a part of social accountability
